Veritas Launches Data Protection Solution That Defends Itself

Veritas announces AI-powered enhancements to Veritas 360 Defense, the industry’s first data protection solution that is self-defense and uses a GenAI-based operational co-pilot. Six new security partners have also joined the ecosystem.

Patrick English, CTO DACH at Veritas: “The existing experts and new generalists need additional support. This is where intelligent data management tools can help combat cybercrime.”

“Cybercriminals are now using advanced AI tools to attack more often, faster and more comprehensively,” said Patrick English, CTO DACH at Veritas. “Their goal is to overwhelm data protection teams, and in the hands of attackers that is unlikely to be a problem. That’s why existing experts and new generalists need additional support. Intelligent data management tools can help combat cybercrime.”

Adaptive self-defense solution for data backup

Cybercriminals are increasingly attempting to compromise backup data using stolen administrator credentials. Veritas’ new self-defense data protection solution is designed to combat this—the first of its kind in the industry. Veritas NetBackup and Veritas Alta Data Protection continuously monitor their environments and defend against threats posed by compromised credentials. The solutions aren’t just designed to detect anomalies in administrative user behavior. According to Veritas, they also automatically report these anomalies and automatically adjust security settings, such as multi-factor authentication and multi-person authentication, to quickly block access to data and protect against attacks.

Veritas Alta co-pilot

Designed to reduce the complexity of enterprise data management, Veritas Alta Copilot is now available to Veritas Alta View users.

The latest Large Language Models (LLMs) form the basis of Veritas Alta Copilot. Designed to reduce the complexity of enterprise data management, it is now available to Veritas Alta View users. The solution is capable of producing sophisticated reports to monitor data infrastructure through simple natural language conversations. It can also quickly identify cyber vulnerabilities and operational inefficiencies, proactively assist in resolving issues, and guide users through complex data management tasks.

Alta Copilot is trained using Veritas best practices and product documentation. The solution enables IT staff with a wide range of tasks to achieve optimal performance – without the management and configuration of highly specialized experts.

Matt Neubauer, Chief Information Officer at Morgans, said: “Veritas’ AI-powered solutions will help us approach data protection differently. Not only will they help us anticipate threats, but they will also help us streamline our data management processes. That saves time. We can also use the freed-up resources to focus on transformative activities.”

Growth in the Veritas Ecosystem

Six new security partners have joined the Veritas 360 Defense ecosystem. These include Securonix, a leading provider of next-gen SIEM, Ueba and Soar.

Mark Stevens, Global Vice President, Channels and Alliances at Securonix, said: “The rise of AI-driven social engineering attacks on credentials is putting all applications and data at risk. As Securonix joins the Veritas ecosystem, customers will immediately benefit from our AI-based threat detection. It gives you early warning if stolen credentials are being used across many other applications, so enhanced security measures can be implemented for the targeted environments before they are compromised.”

Patrick English, CTO DACH at Veritas, adds: “Cyber resilience remains a team effort and this is becoming increasingly important. Because cybercriminals are changing their strategies. Where they used to primarily attack systems, now the people who operate these systems themselves are being targeted. That is why security teams need to adapt their defense strategies. No one can do anything alone. Partners and AI tools are needed to successfully counter this threat.”
