Apple hasn’t yet embarked on the AI adventure like other tech companies. But at the WWDC developers conference tonight, the iPhone company could do a lot better.
Apple is expected to make advancements in artificial intelligence at its WWDC developer conference on Monday starting at 7 p.m. PDT. According to media reports, in addition to the in-house features, technology from the ChatGPT-Inventor OpenAI can be used. The innovations could include the ability to have new emojis created by AI when typing a text, wrote the financial service Bloomberg“It’s going to be a big deal,” CEO Tim Cook said of WWDC plans during a meeting with young programmers on Sunday.
At its internal WWDC conference at the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, California, the iPhone group traditionally previews software and features that will be introduced in new generations of devices starting in the fall. This time around, artificial intelligence is set to play a central role.
According to Bloomberg, there will be an AI function that can summarize the contents of missed messages or emails. This is useful, for example, if you have not looked at your smartphone for a while. The iPhone should also be able to formulate answers in advance for users, as was said, citing informed people.
Apple’s voice assistant Siri, which has been compared to chatbots like ChatGPT seems pretty simple now, thanks to AI it will also take on more tasks than before, Bloomberg wrote. For example, you will be able to delete emails and edit photos with voice commands.
Microsoft and Google have already signed up
Google has had that too in recent weeks and Microsoft placed particular emphasis on AI features during their developer conferences. Microsoft has already secured extensive access to OpenAI technology through a multibillion-dollar pact. Google sometimes supplements search results in the US with AI summaries, but the software made some mistakes in the beginning, such as recommending to eat a small stone a day. Apple has largely limited the use of AI in its devices to individual functions such as improving photos and videos.
A key question will be which iPhone generation the individual AI features will be usable from. According to Bloomberg, many of those models will require one of this year’s models, or at the very least an iPhone 15 Pro from 2023. If the AI innovations prove popular, it could lead to accelerated customer upgrades to new devices. The iPhone is by far Apple’s most important product, generating more than half of its revenue — and also fueling the company with apps and subscriptions.
