Rustic practicality: This is how Opel makes the Frontera its cheapest electric car


Opel wants to make electrification more accessible – and now it’s launching the new Frontera into the race. But it can also be cheaper.

Rüsselsheim (dpa/tmn) – It will still be a few months before it hits the streets. But to position itself in the market and in the family, Opel is already opening the order books for the new Frontera. The small car, which has been upgraded to an SUV and starts from 28,990 euros in the electric version, will then become one of the cheapest electric cars in the country. Except for small cars like this Renault The Twingo and Dacia Spring are currently underpinned by corporate siblings like the Citroën ë-C3.

Frontera offers five seats and 460 to 1,600 liters of luggage space in a length of 4.38 meters. According to Opel, the E version has 83 kW/113 hp and can travel up to 305 km on the standard cycle with the 44 kWh battery.

With a more conventional drive, the Frontera becomes even cheaper

Like most of the current Stellantis models, the Hessians also offer the car as an internal combustion engine, bringing the price down to €23,900. And because the 74 kW/100 hp petrol engine is a mild hybrid combined with a small electric motor and there is a tiny buffer battery, the petrol Frontera can also drive at least a few meters electrically, according to the manufacturer.
