German robotics industry expects weaker growth

Robotics manufacturers are on track for record sales. However, the increase is not as strong as last year. There is competition from China.

The German robotics industry expects significantly lower growth this year than in 2023. Nevertheless, with the expected turnover increase of 2 percent, a turnover record of 16.5 billion euros should be achieved. The year before, companies increased their turnover by 13 percent within a year to the previous record of 16.2 billion euros.

“The robotics and automation industry is at a standstill in the domestic business sector due to the weak economy,” said the chairman of the VDMA Robotics + Automation industry association, Frank Konrad, explaining the current forecast on Monday. The sector expects only impulses from abroad this year: incoming orders there increased by 21 percent in the first four months compared to the same period last year.


On the European market, the industry is preparing for increasing competition from China. The trade conflicts with the US have led to Chinese companies increasingly setting up local service and sales structures in Germany and the EU. “Germany needs a reliable framework for investments and new impulses to strengthen its competitiveness,” Konrad demanded.
