francs recorded a total from January to June 2024 10,807,079 overnight stays. This even surpassed the numbers from the first half of the previous record year 2023 – with a total of 238,249 overnight stays. This corresponds to an increase of 2.4%. The guest arrival figures improved even more significantly: 4,655,824 people visited Franchi between January and June 2024, which is 4.1% more than in the previous year.
The half-year balance is also impressive when compared to the whole of Bavaria: only the region “Upper Bavaria – Munich” recorded higher growth rates in both overnight stays and guest arrivals. Franconia thus occupies second place overall among the Bavarian regions and precedes “Eastern Bavaria” and “Allgäu/Bavarian Swabia”.
“Franconia – the pleasure of discovery”
Thomas Bold, President of the Franconian Tourism Association, is pleased with the good news: “The numbers show how much guests enjoy coming to Franconia. This fills us with courage and confidence for the future, despite all the challenges arising from the general economic situation.”
Record numbers are no reason for the Franconian Tourism Association to rest on its laurels: The tourism association recently launched a new logo, a new slogan and a new logo. “I am sure that with the modern look and our new slogan ‘Franconia – joy of discovery’ we will continue to provide positive impulses to inspire other guest groups to take a holiday in Franconia. For us, day guests and the local population are just as important and with our complaint we are also addressing them,” explains Thomas Bold.
Annual Highlights for 2024
The “joy of discovery” is embodied, for example, by the highlights of the year, which are probably partly responsible for the positive half-year balance: 2024 will mark the 750th anniversary of the granting of the imperial city privilege to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, which is being celebrated with exhibitions and festivals. Bamberg is celebrating another anniversary: this year marks a millennium since the death of Emperor Heinrich II, who among other things donated the imperial cathedral to Bamberg. Numerous special events have been held since the beginning of the year to mark this occasion. Both Bamberg and Rothenburg ob der Tauber are located on the “Burgenstrasse”. In 2024, the renowned tourist route will celebrate its 70th anniversary.
Other annual attractions in Franconia are the Bavarian state spas of Bad Bocklet, where the Balthasar Neumann spring was discovered 300 years ago, and Bad Königshofen, which was awarded the title of “Bad” 50 years ago.
