Ford e-Transit Custom: The best-selling van in Europe goes electric


Already available in electric form, but for the two-tonne Transit, the one-tonne electric Transit shares almost the same spec sheet with its big brother.

The Ford e-Transit is therefore equipped with a battery with a capacity of 64 kWh. This configuration allows it to travel up to 337 km according to the WLTP cycle, which is a figure rather at the top of the basket in its segment. Thanks to the integrated 11 kW charger, the battery can be fully charged in less than eight hours. With a DC fast charging station, the output of which can reach 125 kW, it is possible to go from 15 to 80% in less than 40 minutes. As with the larger e-Transit, customers can opt for the 2.3kW Pro Power on-board system to charge power tools and accessories needed for their work.

Customers can choose between 100 kW or 160 kW (135 or 217 hp) engines, each offering 415 Nm of torque. A more powerful unit with a power of 210 kW is also offered for the model Own E-Transit MS-RT.

The Transit Custom also offers other engines, including plug-in hybrid. It combines a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with an 11.8 kWh battery, provides a power of 233 horsepower and a range in 100% electric mode of up to 56 km (WLTP). Ford also offers a diesel version with a 2.0-liter EcoBlue engine, which is available in three power ratings: 130, 150 and 170 hp.

The L1 and L2 models have three rows of seats and offer up to eight seats. Its payload can reach 1,011 kg and its towing capacity of 2,300 kg is the best in its class.

The interior is packed with features to improve on-board comfort, including a large panoramic glass roof with infrared treatment to protect against the sun’s rays. The electrically operated sliding side doors are also equipped with a hands-free function.

The dashboard includes a 13-inch touchscreen display with the SYNC 4 infotainment system. This device is complemented by new digital equipment compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Integrating the front passenger’s airbag into the roof frees up space in the cabin and allows laptop-sized items to be stored in the glove box. The van also has an innovative steering wheel that turns into a tablet by tilting it.

The E-Transit Custom is available in three finishes: Active, Sport and Titanium active and a 360° camera. Evidently it meets the new GSR2 safety standards.
