Rules for access to the lounge Eurowings are not so easy to understand. It depends on the fare you are flying on, your frequent flyer status and who operates the lounge. Since even the Eurowings website Since not all options are listed, we have created this overview.
Lounge access based on fare or travel class
It is common practice for most airlines that business class passengers have free access to frequent flyer lounges at the departure airport. Similar rules apply to Eurowings. So anyone who has booked BIZclass in Europe can at least use the lounge wherever Eurowings has concluded corresponding contracts:
- Base rate: No lounge access (or only for status customers)
- Smart Tariff: No lounge access (or only for status customers)
- BIZ Class: Access to all Lufthansa Group business class lounges and partner lounges abroad
Lounge access through frequent flyer status
There has recently been an important change regarding access via frequent flyer status. Until July 2024, Miles&More Senators could only use the lounge if they had booked at least the Smart fare. This change is recently fallen – but remains in force for frequent travellers.
And even though Eurowings is not a member of the Star Alliance, status customers of United Airlines, Air Canada and All Nippon Airlines (ANA) are also allowed to use the lounge. However, this only applies where the Lufthansa Group has its own lounges, which is rarely the case abroad.
information
We use the word partner lounge several times in this guide. These are all lounges not operated by Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian or Brussels Airlines. There is an overview on Eurowings website.
Anyone with frequent flyer status Miles&More can use the Eurowings lounge under certain circumstances, even if they only fly in wood class. Premium customers of other airlines also have the opportunity to enter the Eurowings lounge, even if the low-cost airline is not a member of the Star Alliance.
- Frequent travellers: From the Smart fare you have access to all business class lounges operated directly by Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian and Brussels Airlines. However, access to the Basic fare or to partner lounges of other operators is not provided.
- Senator: Regardless of the fare, you have access to Lufthansa Group and partner lounges. You can also bring a guest (booked on the same flight) with you to LH Group lounges; no guests are allowed in partner lounges;
It is currently unclear whether lounge access will also be possible upon arrival. Swiss site he says so. THE Lufthansa website Unfortunately it has not been updated yet. - HON Circle: The rules are similar to the Senator status. So you have access to the LH Group and partner lounges at all fares. Unfortunately, you are not allowed to access the First Class Lounges.
- Star Alliance Gold from United, Air Canada or ANA: Anyone with at least Gold status with United MileagePlus, Air Canada Aeroplan or ANA Mileage Club can use Lufthansa Group lounges regardless of fare. One guest is also permitted. However, access to partner lounges (similar to FTL) is not possible.
- All other Star Alliance Gold: Unless you have achieved Star Alliance Gold status with a Miles&More, United, Air Canada or ANA airline, unfortunately it is useless on Eurowings flights. Eurowings is not a member of the Star Alliance.
Lounge access with credit card (?)
Amex Platinum cardholders can use numerous Lufthansa business lounges in Europe if they have booked a Lufthansa Group flight.
Officially this benefit only applies to flights operated by Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian. But there are also many reports that access was granted with Eurowings flights anyway. It doesn’t seem to work on the Basic plan, but if you have any doubts you can at least try it.
But the included Priority Pass is still worth more. For example, you can enter the Hamburg Airport Lounge (including at least 1 guest) and receive €23 credit Mövenpick Café Berlin and can visit > 1,000 other lounges worldwide. And that’s regardless of which airline you fly with.
Overview of all Eurowings lounges
Important to know: The choice of lounges (partners) of Eurowings is not the same as that of Lufthansa. Eurowings has probably negotiated corresponding contracts only at airports where business class is offered.
For example, it may happen that you cannot reach Valencia with a Eurowings flight, but you can with a Lufthansa flight. In this case, you will not be able to access the lounge even if you have Senator or HON status.
An overview of all the lounges you have access to as an EW passenger is available here:
Below is a map with all the airports that can be accessed starting from July 2024:
The overview at least shows where access is available and with which Miles&More status. Unfortunately, what is not shown are the special rules for United/Air Canada/ANA customers. And there is nothing about access including guests:
Conclusion
Although Eurowings is a low-cost airline and does not belong to any alliance, there are still a few ways to enter the lounge. Compared to Lufthansa, however, these are much more limited: the choice of lounges is smaller and outside the DA-CH area, companions usually have to stay outside.
